Budget voted through despite Conservative Games

Posted By: sam February 23rd, 2011

Cllr Sam Potts and his Liberal Democrat colleagues managed to pass the budget in the early hours of the morning – the budget meeting finished at 3am. The lateness of the hour was largely due to the Conservative group wanting to take money out of critical services and put more money into council clerks and buercracy.

Cllr Sam Potts who ensured that social services and car for the elderly were not cut was furious with the Conservative Opposition. Speaking at the council he said, “Due to the incompetence of the Labour government this city has to find millions – my Liberal Democrat collegues and I have spent many weeks and mouths getting the best deal possible for Milton Keynes – at no point did any Conservative councillor bother to look at the figures and tonight at 3 in the morning they put in a wrecking amendment, to take money out of older people services to put in to council clerks – is this the vison for are city you offer – is this the big society you talk about.
