Children and young people did better than ever, proving that schools have made significant progress to improve the educational achievements in the city.

This year the percentage of children achieving a good rate of development at Early Years Foundation Stage as measured by combined personal, social and emotional development, along with communication, language and literacy rose dramatically from 53.7% to 62.5% per cent, well above the national average.

Initial figures from the Department for Education for Key Stage 1 outcomes show that six and seven year olds in Milton Keynes have performed in the top 50 (out of 152) local authorities nationally.

At Key Stage 2, 11 year olds continued to make good progress and Key Stage 2 outcomes are either in line with or better than the national average.

Schools also proved they are making rapid progress at GCSE level. The number of students achieving at least five GCSE or equivalent at A* to C in the borough’s schools has improved from 69.5% in 2009 to 75.4% this year.

At A level more Milton Keynes students than ever achieved A* to B passes.

Milton Keynes Council’s Youth Champion Liberal Democrat Councillor Sam Potts said: “I am delighted that all the hard work put in by students and teachers, and the support staff, both in the schools and in Children’s Services has paid off and that the results show that education standards in Milton Keynes Borough continues to improve, this is good news for our young people.
