The Milton Keynes Youth Cabinet All in 1 group, has been awarded a regional Citizenship Award for their initiative to provide young people aged 5 to 18 years with a card that serves as free photo identification, a bus pass and a store discount card.
Responding to a young people survey carried out in 2009 to identify the issues closest to young people’s hearts in Milton Keynes, the Youth Cabinet All in 1 group has been working alongside Milton Keynes Liberal Democrat Council, local police and local shops to get the scheme off the ground.
Due to launch later this year, the scheme has already caught the attention of external organisations and the seven members of the All in 1 group have won a Young Citizens Award 2009-2010 and £850 to be used towards the All in 1 Card project. The Award, which is organised by the Thames Valley Partnership and sponsored by the Vodafone Foundation, gives support and recognition to projects led by young people (in the 14-25 age group) which demonstrate their commitment to be active citizens making a difference in their communities.
Youth MP and Astwood lad Sean Barnes who has lead the campaign and has been the chief lobbyist on the issue said “I am delighted that the scheme is now coming along nicely”
Milton Keynes Council Youth Champion Cllr Sam Potts said, “The scheme has really taken off with so many partners sitting down and working together it shows that young people do have a voice here in Milton Keynes.
