Milton Keynes Registration Service that is responsible for registering births, deaths and marriages is performing to a good overall standard, according to an Identity and Passport Service review.

The review states that the service, which is now part of Milton Keynes Council, has performed well against the national standards of the Good Practice Guide, and is underpinned by ‘sound technical delivery of registration duties’.

It also found that the service delivered services at a rating of 89% for its main responsibilities such as those of registering births, deaths and marriages within a set timeframe and 82% for non statutory areas.

The review praised the service saying that its statutory services represent a ‘very good achievement’ and the performance for non-statutory duties was ‘creditable’.

The Identity and Passport Service review has now called on the service to further develop and publish its registration Service Delivery Plan and introduce monitoring systems with audit trails to provide evidence of achievement.

Plans to reduce appointment waiting periods for births and notices also need to be put in place.

The Home Office review highlighted that Milton Keynes is successful in a number of key areas including:

  • A professional well organised workforce, which understands customer needs and delivers work to a good technical standard,
  • High satisfaction level and positive customer feedback ,
  • Effective training programme,
  • Prompt turnaround of all certificate applications and,
  • Timely birth and still birth registrations.

Cllr Sam Potts Cabinet Member Milton Keynes Council, said, “We are delighted that the review was highly positive about the levels of good service we provide to the residents of Milton Keynes. We are now already working hard to achieve the service development points raised by the review.”
