The Learning Difficulties and Disabilities Team at Connexions:MK, Milton Keynes Council’s young people’s advice and support service, held a parents event on Saturday 3rd July to demonstrate to parents of children from Special Schools in Milton Keynes how Connexions:MK can support young people with a learning difficulty or disability until the age of 25.

The event, held at the Connexions:MK Centre at the Point in Central Milton Keynes was a huge success with over 50 young people and parents coming to look around the Centre and talk to Connexions Personal Advisers.

City’s Youth Champion Cllr Sam Potts, said, “The aim of the event was to show parents that support is out there, all completely free of charge, and available for young people to help them make the transition to adult life. Parents told us that they had found the event really useful and that they hadn’t't realised the range of services available to them. This made the whole morning a really worthwhile experience and one that will be repeated each year.’

Sam who is also The Cabinet member for Adult Social Care, went on to say “The Liberal Democrats are determined to make the effort so that whilst children and adult social care are separate, they are also joined up – so there is one continuous service for the young people of Milton Keynes
