Newport Pagnell Youth Club could be the place to inspire the next Heston Blumenthal as young people are now able to enjoy cooking lessons in the youth centre’s brand new kitchen.
Funded by the Milton Keynes Community Foundation and the Harry Middleton Trust, the much-needed kitchen makeover replaced a thirty year old kitchen – nearly as old as Heston himself. The new kitchen is used by young people to learn cooking skills and about eating healthily. Other community groups who use the centre on a daily basis, including the pre-school and after school club, have also been enjoying the light and airy facilities.
Youth Champion and Cabinet member for Health, Cllr Sam Potts, said, “All the groups using the club are delighted with the new kitchen. We’ve started young people on basic cooking skills including making pancakes, fruit smoothies and home made pizza and then we plan to move on to more complicated recipes, giving young people the chance to learn about good food and be really creative. With inspiring surroundings like these, watch this space for the celebrity chefs of tomorrow!”
Milton Keynes Council runs three 2 hour evening sessions a week from Newport Pagnell Youth Club, including: Monday drop in session at 7-9pm for young people aged 11-19; Wednesday senior youth club at 7-9pm; and a junior youth club on Fridays at 6-8pm for 9 to 12 year olds. Youth club sessions include sport, Internet use, DJing in the music studio, art, games, cooking skills and other activities requested by young people. Young people interested in joining in can either come along on the day or email the council for details
